Acting on a camera expose of alleged corruption in the Sales Tax Department, Delhi Government today suspended 30 tax employees, including 10 officers.

Four Sales Tax Officers, six Assistant Sales Tax Officers and 20 clerical level staff, including head clerks, who were identified in the tape of the sting operation telecast by a TV channel last night, were suspended today pending disciplinary action, officials said.

"I called a meeting last night after the tape was aired, following which some of the employees have been suspended and we have also ordered an inquiry into the issue," Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit told reporters.

She said FIRs have been lodged against the suspended employees and the residences of a few of them have been raided.

The Sales Tax Department has been instructed to identify other officials who figure in the tape, she added.

'Aaj Tak' channel had yesterday aired tapes recorded by a hidden camera which purpotedly showed 82 employees of the department allegedly taking bribe for registration of companies and issuing C-Forms which are essential for inter-state trading and assessment of sales tax.

The Anti-Corruption Department carried out raids on the premises of five of the suspended employees today, Finance Minister A K Walia said. He did not divulge whether any seizures were made today, but said raids would continue.

Dikshit also announced that her Government planned to install closed-circuit television cameras in all departments where the public had to interact with officials. PTI
