In-home cameras may help catch intruder

Dearborn Heights Police may know the identity of a man caught on camera breaking into the home of local real estate agent Mike Fayz in broad daylight.

After the footage aired on Fox 2 News, Dearborn Heights Police received a call identifying the suspect, according to Fayz.

No arrests have yet been made.

At 2:22 p.m. on Tuesday, a well-dressed man driving a cream-colored Cadillac STS pulled up in the driveway of Fayz's upscale Dearborn Heights home.

The hidden cameras, built-in all over Fayz's home, showed the suspect knocking on the front door, then unsuccessfully attempting to force it open.

The man then walked around the house, broke the lock on a basement window and entered through the basement.

Cameras on the inside of the house show the man walking deliberately and calmly into three different rooms, then leaving only after hearing Fayz's wife enter the home.

The man's face appears clearly in the footage, but Fayz did not recognize him.

He said that it seemed by the man's demeanor that he was a professional thief.

"Not everyone that's dressed well is an honest person," Fayz said.

He said it was clear the man was searching through belongings, and that only minor possessions were missing, including a broken bracelet.

"He was looking for something big. But my wife spooked him and he left."

"My kids were very scared, very nervous," Fayz said about his family's reaction to the intrusion.

He said his children have since had trouble sleeping.

Lieutenant Michael Krause of the Dearborn Heights police said on Friday that they have a suspect, are looking for him, have not yet made any arrests, and could not release any more details.

"Hopefully my kids can sleep in their own rooms tonight," said Fayz.

Fayz is still offering up to $5000 in rewards for information that leads to a conviction. Anyone who recognizes the man or has any other information should call the Dearborn Heights police at 313-277-6770.
