Altogether, there are 48 different cameras both inside and out. Despite the fact the cameras are no secret, some students are forgetting they're being watched.

"We can go to the hallway in the southside. They all rotate 360 degrees. They will zoom in down the hallways," says Resource Officer Russell Berry.

He is showing what the cameras can capture just about anywhere throughout Shawnee Heights school. Officer Berry says it has been a great deterrent for crime and has even caught some students in the act. One student was caught with drugs. Berry says the one of the effective features is the ability of each one of the district's cameras ability to zoom in several hundred yards and hone in on the smallest of details. They can actually read tags as the cars are leaving.

"I was surprised they could pick out license plates or people. I think I will watch how fast I pull out of here," says student Craig Kleinberg.

The cameras have the ability to hone in on a person from 150 feet away. They can even see the contents of purses or bags.

"I feel safer. I feel it's important because if someone got their stuff stolen," says student Alexa Hanney.

Since the cameras were installed in October, there were 25 thefts at Shawnee Heights school. Sixteen of those have been solved. The other nine were in locker rooms. Cameras aren't allowed in classrooms, locker rooms and bathrooms.
