Dad's spy camera catches peeping Tom

October 1, 2006

When a Brisbane father discovered a peeping tom peering through his teenage daughter's bedroom window, he did what any modern, switched-on dad would do - installed spy cameras.

The 45-year-old father of three, who only wanted to be known as Ricky, said his 18-year-old daughter had been terrified after repeatedly noticing a man lurking around her window at the family's Marsden home, in Brisbane's south.

The man is believed to have visited the home on several occasions since August.

Ricky said instead of scaring away the peeping Tom, he wanted to catch him on film.

He bought two infra-red video cameras at a cost of $250 and positioned them at the base of his daughter's bedroom window.

The peeping Tom was videoed twice on Saturday trying to peer through the Venetian blinds.

"If somebody's staring through your window, why not stare back?" Ricky said.

"I said to the family `I know it's terrible he's looked through, but I don't want him scared away. I want to catch him'.

"For $250, I would've paid that no problem at all to protect my family."

The family have given police footage of the man, described as caucasian, aged between 30 and 35, about 160cm tall and with a slim build.

Ricky said he was not a technological whiz, rather a protective father.

"I would've liked to have gone out there and given him a hiding, but nowadays you can't do that sort of thing," he said.
