The fingers of modern technology are extending to detect people who illegally dump rubbish.
Domestic and industrial rubbish disposal is becoming more expensive and more difficult.
A minority of people defy the law and dump rubbish on roadsides and public areas. Like graffiti, this is a cost to society which we all pay through rates and taxes.
The Local Government Association puts the annual bill at around $1.1 million.
But the LGA and Keep South Australia Beautiful are combining to install spy cameras in prime dumping spots.
With a maximum fine of $5000 the cameras will quickly pay for themselves - and deter the serial offenders.
