TWO men have been snapped stealing a 90kg model camera from the roof of a camera store in Ringwood.

The men were captured on security video trying to lug the camera to a nearby side street after removing it from the roof of the Maroondah Hwy store.

Police said the incident took place about 3.30am on Friday March 20 when the men climbed on the rood and unbolted the camera from its steel supports before throwing it to the ground.

The men then allegedly jumped on the model, breaking it into several pieces before dragging it away.

The camera, valued at $30,000, is a replica of a Canon EOS 5D Mk 2 and was made from foam, fibreglass, metal and glass.

Cranes were used to fit the model to the top of the store two years ago. The repair bill is estimated at $10,000.
