A CCTV unit was among the police officers, residents and council staff rewarded for a positive effect on crime levels in the area.

Barry Donbavand collected the CCTV Office Commendation from Ch Supt Sandy Padgett on behalf of Sedgemoor District Council CCTV unit.

In 2008/2009 there were 22,000 camera actions, with 200 arrests as a direct result of the actions of CCTV staff across Somerset.

In October 2008 the CCTV team tipped off the police after they monitored suspicious activity outside a Bridgwater nightclub.

Police officers detained two males and a substantial quantity of cocaine with a street value of £5,000 was recovered.

Ch Supt Padgett said: "This commendation is in recognition of the dedication and professionalism of all the staff at the Sedgemoor District Council CCTV office that support this district in the prevention and detection of crime and community reassurance."
