AN ANGRY Wagga business owner has launched a scathing attack on Kerry Pascoe, heavily criticising the Wagga mayor’s refusal to install CCTV cameras.
Frustrated Kylie Toff, the owner of Hair on Docker, yesterday labelled Cr Pascoe “absent-minded” and “stupid” for failing to consider CCTV cameras as a crime-prevention tool in Wagga.
Mrs Toff, whose hair salon has been targeted by vandals twice in less than a fortnight, called on Cr Pascoe to introduce the surveillance system in a bid to stop late-night break-ins.
“If there were cameras we might have been able to catch the people who have broken into my salon twice in the last couple of weeks,” she said.
“I just can’t believe the mayor is so absent-minded to think CCTV cameras aren’t important.
“Maybe he should think a bit harder about making our streets safer. There’s no doubt we’re part of the minority in terms of towns and cities which don’t have cameras set up.
"It might not stop all crime but it’s going to lead to more convictions.”
Mrs Toff yesterday joined a growing chorus of concerned residents and business owners by calling for the launch of CCTV.
She believes Cr Pascoe can play a major role in stopping late-night vandalism by introducing CCTV.
“The first time we had our front window smashed in and the float in the till taken, which had over $500 in it,” she said.
“Then last Thursday the same window was smashed in again and more money was taken from the till.
“It was only 10pm.
“I can’t believe the mayor is so stupid to think CCTV won’t help.”
Cr Pascoe was unable to be contacted to respond to this story yesterday.
